The squirrels around here are acting very intense about stashing whole pine cones (usually they just stash the seeds). That seems like it should presage an extra wintry winter, so November weather might be expected to start sooner. Of course if you don’t believe that the length of the wooly-bear fur, or the desperation of the squirrels is an adequate predictor, then you’d have to go with climate change which predicts that November weather should, on average, start later.
Yup, in November the sun will get more play through bare branches and more birds will come to the feeders. Hawks will coast overhead watching for the sluggard squirrel who is late to the nest. Frost will shine in the early light. But there is a down side. In support of the religion called curb appeal, blowers and vacuum trucks will replace mowers and weed whackers and the noise level will be worse. Life in our time.

Since when did anyone in Michigan have a good idea of what the weather would be in November?

Are they really talking about the weather? I think, in a way, we’re all dreading November…
