The Senate is the nominal audience; the American public is the real audience.

No matter what they do he will still be impeached. When he dies (sooner rather than later one hopes) it will say he was only the 3rd president to be impeached.

“Do you solemnly swear that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of Donald John Trump, president of the United States, now pending, you will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws, so help you god?” This was the oath administered by Chief Justice Roberts to each U.S. senator yesterday. Senators who have publicly stated that they will disregard any and all evidence presented in the trial because they are convinced of President Trump’s innocence are violating this oath and need to be removed by Chief Justice Roberts from the presiding body. He has the power to do so although he can be overruled by a Senate vote, which would be indicative of further violations. Write your senators and urge that these past statements be entered into the record and brought to Chief Justice Roberts’ attention.

For sentimental reasons Moscow Mitch will use his own personal box grater he purchased in 1920. He’ll have to sneak it past the metal detector. He’s going to see how it works on the Constitution next.

And to think John Roberts is presiding over this sham of a trial and condones the injustice to America…..BOO HISS. America just lowered their standards to a new low…..

This assumes a few things:1- The House’s articles are without reproach. (They aren’t. They didn’t even let R’s call any witnesses. It was a strictly constructed dialogue from the beginning.)2- The Senate’s job should not be to try the articles of impeachment to fully understand them and see if there is any merit. (Although there may be senators on either side who will vote strictly along party lines, I hope that they are in the minority).

In the end, the articles should receive a fair, impartial trial and the American people should be allowed to decide whether this president is guilty of impeachable offenses.
