    Why are we dumping rocket fuel into our water? Shouldn’t we be using it in rockets? I’m outraged.

    If tigger can’t see it, it must not be there? What does a perchlorate ion look like, tigger? It should be a concern to all of us if millions of Americans have perchlorate in their drinking water. Could it be that tigger is only concerned about HIS drinking water? I would rather have the EPA functioning for and protecting all of us.

    There is no rocket fuel in the drinking water. There is an ingredient for rocket fuel called perchlorate in areas near military bases; It’s used for other things as well.

    It seems like there isn’t a good technology for removing it, so I assume the burden would be on military bases to improve disposal. I’m also assuming the development of this technology will be funded by lawsuits against the military for the cost of cleaning it up.

    There are so many contaminated water sources, and contaminants in them, thanks to “industrial progress”, the count is difficult to impossible. From rocket fuel production, to natural gas production, to agricultural “production” and poisoning of the largest aquifer in the United States, American devoted to GOPER policies have given up on being ostrich, because sticking their head in the sand would poison them. (Most were obviously brain damaged long ago.)

    Exemptions from EPA rules have only contributed to the problem. The anti-EPA movement has never gone away, but is resurgent with morons like Boehner, Walden, Coburn and Inhofe getting more “power”. And yes, they WILL define rocket fuel as an “energy drink”—again.

    In Quebec, the hot topic is natural gas exploration.

    They have shown pictures of people living near gas wells in the US who can light their tap water on fire!

    The Almighty Cerberus says; Bathroom tap water on fire? What’s so unusual about that?

    FCM, what’s your opinion on the subject? A lot of people want it stopped, but I say that it has to be exploited (and it needs to be done with modern, efficient standards). And if the Liberals decide to sh##-can the project, they’d better be ready to slash TONS of spending programs to make up for the lost cash and shove a foot up their @$$ if they ever…EVER…even think about raising taxes by half a penny.

    lorax, when it’s YOUR water polluted because of natural gas exploration, then you can preach. Until then …

    my opinion is that the gas should be exploited;

    1; when we really (i.e., more than now) need it.

    2; when the technology is safer.

    A simple solution would be to supply affected homes with water filters to remove all pollution and impurities. The problem would be the high cost of trying to remove perchlorate from all of the water supply. It is far too expensive, and impractical.

    BTW…this problem has existed throughout many administrations. Stop making it a partisan issue.
