“Light” is perhaps the most versatile word in the English language, with 75 definitions in Merriam-Webster and uses as a noun, adjective, verb, and adverb.

The English language must be hard for those people from a non English speaking background. I can wind my way through the desert with the wind in my hair whilst eating dessert.

That fish in the second panel looks awfully large, are you sure that it was drawn to scale?

One can have scaly skin and be afraid of scaly critters at the same time.

Other languages suffer the same problems. I studied Chinese which has words with the same character and pronunciation but different meaning depending on where they are used.

A Fish & Banjo both have scales, but it’s a lot harder to tune-a-fish!

Don’t forget about the scales of Justice, which unfortunately have been rigged so that they aren’t even close to being balanced as they should be.

Ain’t English GRAND? I’ve always said, if you speak English, you speak a least a dozen languages. . .and let’s not even get into dialects, reginal variations, and slang.

It’s a wonder Frank and Ernest can afford all these adventures since they’re only being paid scale!
