I like how bad guys get in a good mood and then all of a sudden, it gets ruined.

Oh, how we C&H readers wish to see an arc where Calvin gets suspended from school (let alone suspended).

And there it is. Susie’s expression in Panel 3 is the best facial expression that Bill Watterson ever drew, in my opinion. I have no single word for what that look conveys. Contempt, smugness, and gloating all wrapped up in a single look and devious smile!

I ran across this. Besides discussing this year’s Calvin/Bloom county crossover, it has a few early submission strips. How about Calvin with a big brother?

Somehow, that smile reminds me of Nancy Pelosi applauding Donnie Johnnie during his State of the Union mumbo jumbo.

Yep, Calvin is up the river without a paddle!

“Up the river”…. referring to up the Hudson River to Sing Sing. I went to HS in Ossining, where Sing Sing is. My boyfriend and I had a make-out spot down by the prison. LOL.

Me thinks our little imp is about to get his come-uppin’s.

Cue the ominous music in the background.

Watterson claims to have had Calvin’s dislike of school but to have been a studious child unlike Calvin. Nevertheless, many of Calvin’s adventures and misadventures are based on Watterson’s childhood memories – happy memories of playing in the woods, unhappy memories of camping trips and organised sports. In this magnificent story arc, he has put some of himself into Calvin and another part of himself into Susie.

Calvin is a lot more fun than Susie, but then again the comic strip isn’t about Susie because Calvin is far more interesting.

I always thought maybe Calvin had a little crush on Suzy. Little boys always do these kinds of things at this age. Then when they get to high school, you see them dating the little girl they used to pick on.

If that happened in today’s school, Suzie would appear on “Beyond Scared Straight” being talked down by prisoners saying “Do you know what happens when you snitch in prison, you get stitches.” Humph, I bet she would keep her mouth shut after that.

That smile is just completely evil. I love it.

Susie’s face in the third panel is absolutely priceless! It’s a mix of “you bet I told him” and “your going to get in big trouble” in that smug smile!
