I first saw this strip out of context from the rest of the storyline, and thought he was talking about Beanie Babies.

Why do they call propeller hats beanies anyway?

He’s not really excited about the beanie. It’s just the sugar high that’s going to last another two days.

A good friend is a good listener , but there are limits you can’t sustain – same comment I posted on Candorville good for both the stripes .

Hobbes’ growing annoyance is so spectacular here.

So…why do they call it a “dickie”?

Lots of adult responses here as to how bad Calvin is. Even at 66 I recall the anticipation of a prize or a gift coming by mail and the excitement it brought. I wish I could relive that exhilaration today about anything.

Anyone here old enough to remember Beanie Boy & Cecil the Sea Sick Sea Serpent? As I recall Beanie Boys name came from his hat A.K.A.-Beanie

Maybe they’ll confuse Calvin and send a purple one.

His anticipation is sort of infectious. Like an ear infection.

Poor Calvin just has no patience. He should pray for some. I often pray for it too. Pray like this, “Dear God please give me patience….AND GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!!!!”

An early 50s TV show called “Time for Beanie” featured a hand puppet named Beanie with a propeller hat. Hence it stuck.

I made my own propeller beanie, but my wife won’t let me wear it in public.

Are we watching an autistic hyperfocus episode? (I still do them.)

I predict the hat will come and, after all the anticipation, Calvin will quickly lose interest. Probably because the propeller won’t really make him fly!

Reminds me of the original “A Christmas Story”. Ralphie is drinking all this Ovaltine so he can get his Little Orphan Annie decoder ring. Finally he gets the ring and decodes the top-secret message. The message reads “Drink more Ovaltine”

Let me guess, the hat arrives, Hobs tells Calvin he looks like a goober wearing it, into the closet it goes.
