When I was about six, I hid in a large laundry basket to get out of going to school. It never occurred to me then (as it does now) that a) Mom wouldn’t just merrily take the rest to school and leave me behind, or that 2) she would recognise the shirt I had put on that morning, as the one I was still in while curled head-down in the basket! Also, five minutes stuffed in there felt like half an hour to me, so when it got quiet for a while I was sure everyone had gone and I was off the hook. Wrong!!

His exhaust is going to get over-heated!

Drat, those pesky Zogwargs.

I hope you put some fuel in that jetpack, Spiff! Those Zogwargs mean business now!

A quiet morning for Miss wormwood?

Absolutely love Spaceman Spiff. The very first Calvin & Hobbes I saw was a Sunday strip with Spiff. It was on some newspaper that had been used in packing something I hand bought by mail (yeah, it was pre-internet, way pre-internet).

Once when I was seven I decided that I had had enough of school and walked out. Just walked out and went home. My mom was not amused.

The Zogwargs have a way of getting their way, Spiff!

There is no escape, Calvin. Just give up and take your medicine.

Pocket jet packs, sigh. Still just a dream.

In my day you would be paddled for cutting school.

Calvin is just too intelligent for school (at least his grade). He has a large vocabulary, a great imagination, and he can be very clever. If he were my kid, I’d insist that he be promoted. That helped my son’s attitude tremendously. But hey, you know, we want the Calvin we see here, the bright kid who invents ways to escape the boredom he’s been sentenced to.

Gravity appears to be pretty low on that planet.

I love the intersection of these two worlds/perspectives in an ongoing series like this.

My question is how do you inflate a jet pack?

What I said yesterday applies to today. Spiff is cool.

Has Dad got eyes at his back, to see flying Calvin while reading a newspaper?

It’s times like these when a Spaceman needs a trusty sidekick with long teeth and claws. Not Hobbes, of course. He’d just look cute and try for smooches from at least one of the Zogwargs…

Calvin’s mom will be “Personally” placing him on that bus from now on…poor Miss Wormwood & poor Susie, come to think of it….Moe will be very happy to see him. Lol
