Nothing from the comic. Oh, well. Hey, Night-Gaunt49: I started reading on neo-liberalism, trying to get a handle on some of your past comments. Right now, I have a bit of an idea where you’re coming from, and I was wondering if you’d care to elaborate some more?

if we all get along, nothing gets done. Conflict helps us challenge our views on everything and (well, outside of today’s politics) find ways to make things better.

Wow! A red letter day! I am in agreement with J Gray and WagnerInAtlanta? But you guys are right (and I think I have been arguing the point, too) – we need civil dialog, and it has been sorely missing – from both sides – for some time now.

It has indeed been sorely missing. But “civil dialog” (sic) has two components. Dialogue assumes that both sides will give a fair hearing to the other. What we have today are more ideological monologues, eschewing any disagreement or rebuttal. As Americans, we could and should disagree with one another. But as a familiar, yet apparently lost, aphorism used to say, “I may disagree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it.”
