A friend worked for IRS. They put him on corporations. First four cases he colleced over 30 million in taxes and fines, they moved him to going after organized crime. He didn’t see it as much different.
A couple of years ago I lost a receipt from my wife’s lottery win (>$600 and IRS is notified) and didn’t list it as income. The IRS sent a letter pointing out the error and I sent the additional tax. They sent another (form) letter thanking me for prompt payment and “forgiving” the interest, which starts accruing immediately. All very civilized. The takeaway is simple. Be honest and the IRS won’t be monsters.
@radish You’re forgetting the man who repairs the street in front of your house, the police officer who watches your house when you’re away, and numerous others that make you safe, secure, and comfortable living here.
@Wiley (Totally off the subject) With regard to the time change NonSeq from last year, did you ever send a copy to the Stonehenge Visitors Center? I told them about it when we were there last summer!

Married men are much tougher to audit. Single men have no idea what an interrogation is really like.

I thought the tax forms were just postcard size. Why the ‘heavy’ equipment?

It’s not theft; it’s extortion.
