It’s one of those paleontological discoveries you can get a nickel for.

They don’t find it odd that this “skull” doesn’t have eye sockets?

The Gods Must Have Been Crazy. (Now that’s an old film reference no one will probably get!)

Some years ago there was a joke circulating, purportedly a letter written by a curator at the Smithsonian to an amateur fossil hunter. You can still find it on line; google “smithsonian barbie”, and the search results from Snopes and MIT have the complete text. I’m not posting the URL because I think that gets you banned from gocomics. And, intentional or not, it may contain a Calvin reference.

And maybe it’s just a coke bottle…if seen through anyone else’s eyes.

Are you kidding! That’s a nickel! 4 more just like it, picked up off the side of the road, and you can turn them in at the store for a candy bar!

    (Geez, I’m old.)

I have a coke bottle from 1972 that I pulled out of a soft drink machine. What makes it unique is that it’s filled with orange soda and has a FANTA bottle cap on it. The orange soda has faded quite a bit and there’s orange sediment on the bottom but I bet it’s worth something.

“The Gods Must be Crazy” – Great film, that surprised everyone with its popularity and longevity. It all starts with a coke bottle falling out of the air, presumably dropped from a plane, over Africa, into the territory of a tribe who didn’t know what a coke bottle was! good memory orinoco.

Oh I remember those delicious days of exploring, when everyday objects became the sources of great mystery and provided hours of entertainment and mental exercise tracking down the culprit, theorizing on ancient doings….and I’m happy to say that they’re still alive and well because I take the advice of the White Queen in Alice in Wonderland and believe six impossible things before breakfast every day. Of course, these days they tend to start with, “Yes, I CAN straighten up out of this bed…”
