Elizabeth, breaking the carton is an accident. Lying about it is deliberate.

I see Lizzie is literally cryin’ o’er split milk. Good luck, girl, coming up with an alibi.

Even though Elizabeth has never been shown being spanked, she seems to have a strong fear of telling the truth to her mother. Where does this fear come from? Elly Patterson’s idea of punishment is to send her kids to summer camp. I would tell her about the milk and hope she gets mad enough to punish me with a ski trip.

She’s just a kid…..all kids do this kind of thing once in a blue moon. Bless her heart! GIve her a hug, Ellie!!! She shouldn’t have to worry about having to lie at her age. Mom’s forgive!

“I’ll hafta tell her the truth. … Unless I can think up something better.”

I think I can see which way this is going to go.

When I was younger, my Dad sent my younger sister and I out to the corner store for soda. We did get the soda, but we used the change to buy candy because it was still only a nickle back then. When my Dad found out, he grounded us for the weekend. He was going to beat us with a tree branch, but somehow my Mom called and saved us both from that doom.

The cover-up is often worse than the crime itself.

There is no set regulation as to every situation in parenting. For example, if there is a time, when one of our kids is 8 years old, my wife and I find the living room rug is on fire!

    What should I do?

I walked to school; and one day I had detention. I walked home late and my mother was yelling asking why I was so late. I told her I couldn’t cross the street because there was a garbage truck in the way.

I remember when I was with my young son looking for my tape measure. Went from corner to corner searching, but to no avail. I was getting more and more impatient, especially with my son going, “Daddy, Daddy” to get my attention. As my temperature went up, my son finally yelled, “But Daddy, I broke it!” A short pause, then in a small voice, “What are you going to do to punish me?”

How could one punish such honesty? He had already learned his lesson, and punishment would accomplish nothing.

Why does GC insist on doubling my comments? Are they so superior that they should be repeated to ensure that everyone sees them? I doubt it.

Years ago in our neighborhood, a man ran into an old girlfriend. Time flew and when he got home his wife asked him where he had been for the past five hours! To mcover up, he told her he had been hijacked, but he managed to get rid of him a couple hundred miles away! But, she contacted the police with obvious outcome!
