President Trump is to blame for the shutdown. It was he who submitted a budget manifestly incapable of becoming legislation; he whose policy priorities were insufficiently clear for others to rally around; he who failed to do the patient, arduous work of identifying trade space for greater support when it was clear his budget proposal was a non-starter; he who threw Molotov cocktails into negotiations among legislators. He owns this failure, and I think the public will affix that blame into him because ultimately it is the President’s job to cajole Congress to do theirs.
Most of the people in the United States want the Dreamers protected and allowed to stay in the country.
Most of the people in the United States realize that the Republicans are giving relatively tiny tax breaks to the middle class to distract them from the gigantic tax breaks given to millionaires and billionaires. They also realize that the Republicans will try to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and infrastructure spending in order to give the referenced tax breaks to the donor class.
If the Democrats put together an appropriate message, and put up candidates who support the majority’s best interests, it won’t be the left that loses.
The government shutdown on Trump’s one year anniversary is totally symbolic of the Gross Old Pervert party. Republicans have the house, senate and Shite House and cannot get anything done because they are totally partisan and non-democratic even among their own misinformed factions. Bad start to the new thousand year reich.

One sides job is to lead us into the future, the other side is trying to hold us to the past.
