Ike lead the most constructive, literally, Republican administration, with the interstate higway system, and more, like a 93% top tax rate, and corporations grew at the highest rate in US history.
My father used to say if you give someone something for free they won’t appreciate it. It just makes them want more. Trump is giving the elite 1% all the money in the world for nothing in return. What will happen when the elite 1% want more but there’s nothing more they can get because everyone is totally broke, bankrupt? You can’t get blood from a stone. Though I’m pretty sure they’ll try.
Eisenhower was the last Republican president who actually was interested in doing good for the country. Since then, they have bought into the idea that the Middle Class can’t be trusted, and the money needs to be under the control of the rich folks who will control it for the good of everyone. The fact that they have failed to do anything for anyone other than themselves for the last 50 years doesn’t seem to have any effect on that theory, they keep right on creating a caste system in every way they can possibly find. Either they are so convinced that it is working that they are unable to see that it isn’t, or they know it isn’t and continuously increasing income inequality is the actual goal.
^Not the best idea when the parties are owned by the 1% and certainly not when the Gini index for the US stands at 0.39.
Time for people to get involved, and the best bet is the progressive wing of the Democratic party. One needs an organization to run for office, which means a party of some sort.
CDHPC2: You don’t seem to understand liberals, moderates, conservatives or regressives.
See how far you get with conservatives if you promote removing all government price supports for businesses and agriculture. Republicans have fought hard to continue corn mandates and subsidies.
What troubles me is how everyone (EVERYONE) fails to see the elephant in the room: Defense Spending. Nearly $800 Billion. The purpose of the DoD is to make the world “safe” and provide protection so that US businesses and interests can operate in far off locations. Oh, it also provides for nice big fat defense contracts for “selected” US businesses. More welfare for the rich.
Actually everyone fails to see that particular elephant in the room because there are so many elephants in the room that it gets lost in the crowd. The average person sees ALL of the elephants very well, but is too preoccupied with trying to avoid being trampled by them to notice any one of them specifically.

Republicans are pitch black. The abundance of neoconservative Democrats are dirty grey.

So maybe trusting political parties to select the best candidates for We the People’s representatives was not such a good idea?

The Republicans would cut your hand off if it would get them another dollar to a rich contributor. If it comes from the poor, even better.
