Its bad enough the state allows for 16 year old girls to be treated as women. Now it seems some have decided that despite Roy Moore’s fighting the law and getting dismissed twice, some maybe enough will stick by him over his sexual peccadilloes with under age and barely aged females many times his junior.
And, the saddest part is that if he’s allowed to run, I have no doubt he will win. Sexual predators in the movie biz are banished and shunned. In politics they become President.
Imagine if politicians had to be vetted ethically and morally so they could “do no harm” based on their history. Why don’t our private parties have professional standards?
One has to remember that in Alabama an adult male having sex with a fourteen year old girl, even within the family, is not unusually nor objectionable.
If we had moral requirements that had to be met before a person could run for office: Jefferson would have been disqualified because he had several children with one of his slaves. FDR would have been disqualified because he had an ongoing relationship with his nurse and rarely saw Eleanor. Lincoln would have been disqualified unless he could disprove the rumors that he was homosexual. Eisenhower would have been disqualified because he and his driver were an “item” all through WWII. Kennedy was an active womanizer, Marilyn was his favorite, but almost surely not the only one. Clinton “didn’t have sex with that woman”, which is unlikely even in that case and he was involved with other women in Arkansas, unless half the state is lying. And, I don’t know what the other 50 something presidents were up to because I don’t care enough to research it, but I doubt if I couldn’t dig up something if I tried.
I’m not defending Moore, but if we actually had to prove that we had never done anything sexually that we would rather not have on the front page of the newspaper, I think we would have a very limited selection of candidates.
I very pointedly note that child molesting is not limited to members of only one party. And, it is not that recent, either. What has changed, is that big lie about young girls, and young boys, as well, “seducing older men” is no longer being pushed by the news media.
We need to talk about the segment of American culture that probably doesn’t think the allegations against Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore are particularly damning, the segment that will blanch at only two accusations in the Washington Post expose: He pursued a 14-year-old-girl without first getting her parents’ permission, and he initiated sexual contact outside of marriage.
That segment is evangelicalism. In that world, which Moore travels in and I grew up in, 14-year-old girls courting adult men isn’t uncommon.
I use the phrase “14-year-old girls courting adult men,” rather than “adult men courting 14-year-old girls,” for a reason: Evangelicals routinely frame these relationships in those terms.
That’s how I was introduced to these relationships as a home-schooled teenager in the 1990s, and it’s the language that my friends and I would use to discuss girls we knew who were in parent-sanctioned relationships with older men.
One popular courtship story that was told and retold in home-school circles during the 1990s was that of Matthew and Maranatha Chapman, who turned their history into a successful career promoting young marriage.
Most audiences, however, didn’t realize just how young the Chapmans had in mind until the site Homeschoolers Anonymous and the blogger Libby Anne revealed that Matthew was 27 and Maranatha was 15 when they married.
Libby Anne also drew mainstream attention to Matthew Chapman’s writings, in which he argued that parents should consider marriage for their daughters in their “middle-teens.” At that point the Chapmans stopped receiving quite so many speaking invitations.
The alleged child molester or the Democrat? Alabama voters face that choice in a few weeks’ time, and it’s not clear which of those they’ll find more odious. There are several reasons to think Roy Moore, the Republican nominee who’s been accused of making sexual advances to teenagers, could lose the special Senate election scheduled for Dec. 12. But there’s one big reason to think he could still win. There are plenty of Republicans in Alabama who don’t even like Roy Moore, but they won’t actually hold their nose and vote for a Democrat.

Yes. If they were held to the requirements do, say, janitors trying to get hired, they’d be at the bottom of the applications pile.

And that is why Alabama is always at the bottom of the statistics.
Thanks Republicans!

Good, I’m glad you agree!
Bill Clinton was never tried or convicted of molestation or rape.
I’m so glad that we will never hear Right Wingers complain about him again…
RIGHT?
