We know that Manafort is not as important as Papadopoulos in the investigation, so why bother with this?

Varvel is likely whistling past the cemetery. Mueller’s team as much as said so. The larger question is whether the Republican Party has any patriots who aren’t dying or not running again. They are contemptible in their normalization of sociopathy, and all cowards for not standing up for America’s aspirational ethics and values.

    https://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2017/11/robert_mueller_s_brilliant_strategy_for_outmaneuvering_trump_pardons.html

“Mueller knows that Trump can pardon Manafort (or any defendant) in order to relieve the pressure to cooperate with Mueller and to keep them quiet. But Mueller also knows that presidential pardons affect only federal crimes and not state-level crimes.

On the one hand, double jeopardy rules under the Fifth Amendment prevent a second prosecution for the same crime, but the doctrine of dual sovereignty allows a state to follow a federal prosecution (and vice versa).

So in theory, Manafort and Papadopoulos can’t rely on Trump’s pardons to save them even after a conviction or a guilty plea.

But in practice, state rules can expand double jeopardy protections and limit prosecutions.

In fact, New York is such a state. New York is the key state for Mueller because New York has jurisdiction over many alleged or potentially uncovered Trump–Russia crimes (conspiracy to hack/soliciting stolen goods/money laundering, etc.), and New York state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and New York district attorneys are not politically constrained from pursuing charges."

Wow, I knew cartoonist Varvel was in the tank for the GOP, but to say that Trump’s Campaign Chairman being indicted for Conspiracy Against the United States is insignificant is a new level of partisanship.

Manafort was just an adviser to 3 republican presidents and chairman of Trump’s election campaign. Is small fish, fetch coffee, nobody knew him, nudge nudge, wink wink.

That is a nice little bear, but you should draw the real bear he caught Papa bear dopoulos. Mueller’s brilliant strategy has outmaneuvered Trump’s pardons, maybe that could be a funny little rabbit or something? Quivering in the corner with his funny red hair.

Don’t forget that little teddy’s bank records have been given to Mueller to go through. What fun you could have with a funny forest animal to represent the finances Mueller is instigating.

That’s okay, much like Mueller’s investigation, this funny little toon is a start!

Why aren’t any of the charges against Manafort tax evasion?

If he did all that money laundering and not reporting income and hiding of income, wouldn’t that mean he didn’t pay taxes on any of the money he supposedly laundered?

Or did he actually pay his taxes on every cent Mueller is referring too?

    @denis1112

Why isn’t Robert Mueller charging Manafort with tax evasion?

Why didn’t you ask why Manafort isn’t being charged with a “Federal” instead of a “State” level crime?

And the answer would be: Because unlike yourself, Mueller knows what he is doing…

Varvel and a few other cartoonists remind me that some people think that being “clever” is more important that being either accurate or honest.
