    Men’s hats would lose their shape with time and weather and need to be re-blocked. I can remember when some men’s hat stores(yes, there were stores that sold nothing else) had a sign that said they re-blocked hats.

    I blocked Stetson cowboy hats for 6 months back in the late ’80s. It was sorta fun.

    Technically a hat store is called a millinery, although that term usually implies women’s hats. A Men’s habedashery refers to all kinds of clothing accessories – hankies, buttons, ties, belts etc. and usually includes hats. I haven’t seen either in ages.
