Editorial cartoons generally exaggerate, but some of them instead distill the essence of an event into a cartoon, like this one does. From what I’ve read, it’s no exaggeration at all.
Systemic racism and white privilege mean never having to understand what is wrong with this scenario. A president who would pardon the cop, a white senate to install a judge who is known to be harsh on minorities. Body cams which show intent, the police don’t have to worry, they’ll be ignored or locked away until after the trial.
The perp in the toon committed the crime of walking down the street with black skin.
We seem to be avoiding trials by jury in most of these police killings. I’m assuming there is a reason for this beyond not wanting to subject our “boys in blue” to public scrutiny of an ‘unbiased’ nature. I totally understand this, by the way, having grown up in a state where a black man’s death (he was stabbed 27 times) was ruled “death by misadventure” by the investigating authorities after first having been ruled a suicide by the local sheriff! I have no idea how this was ultimately settled, the white community really didn’t ‘care’ what happened to blacks as long as their houses were kept clean and their lawns and gardens were kept nicely cut and tilled and weeded! To be fair, as a child, I had black friends so I can say that blacks cared even less about what happen to whites, as long as the paychecks kept come coming. And, to round out the picture, we kids really didn’t cat what happened to the adults as long as we were fed and left alone!
That judge should be removed. There is something wrong with the system that allows a policeman to shoot civilians who are unarmed. Perhaps I’m being simplistic.
If the jurists could have remained anonymous and not have had to even contemplate police retaliation in any form, the jury trials might have had very different outcomes. Guess winning through intimidation still works.

Wimp cops…there was a time a kid like that would have been tackled and spanked. It is so much less brutal to just kill him. (Snark)

A “Warning Shot” does NOT mean 5 or 6 rounds in the chest!

Why put yourself in a situation where the cops feel the need to shoot you? Just a thought…

You would think the cop would have at least gotten the dead guys DNA on the murder weapon. He probably figured "Eh, why bother?
