And, by the way… Monday will mark the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and while Donald Trump’s White House will likely have a raft of photo ops planned for him, here are a few others that are impossible to forget.
Most notably, just hours after the Twin Towers fell, Trump was interviewed by a local television station, and noted that the worst terrorist attack ever on American soil had given him the tallest building in New York:
“40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually, before the World Trade Center, was the tallest, and then, when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second-tallest. And now it’s the tallest.”
In that same interview, Trump said that the most important thing for the city to do was to “never forget,” but by the 2016 presidential campaign, he was referring to the attacks as “7/11”:
And at that time we had a president who to had to prove himself as good a man as his dad and go to war to justify his place in the world. so of course we had to go to war, just with the wrong people, also because he was told they had weapons that they didn’t have. Nothing like bad info as a basis to making bad ass decisions.
Preventing repeats is not done by closing off our borders and proving Osama bin Laden was right. Preventing repeats is not done by droning citizens in the Middle East. Preventing repeats is not done by hating all Muslims. That is how the Republicans have tried to handle this, and it has made things worse.

Never forget a national tragedy can be used to trick us into war. Always remember where the 9/11 attackers actually came from.
