I think the republicans are likely cheering Mueller on. They sort of have to. Most know trumpy is mentally ill, and they’re getting frustrated with his illness. Pence is the solution for them. My hope would be that trumpy twists in the wind until November 2018, and most of the remainder of his term taken up with impeachment and the like. Just maybe, the two-thirds of America that has not taken leave of its senses will vote to restore America’s aspirational values. You know, truth, justice and the American way.
@darsan I’m sure you didn’t intend it as a compliment, but am curious nonetheless in understanding by what measure you would consider Donald Trump successful.
As former WSJ reporter and hedge fund manager Neil Barsky wrote about Trump in a 2016 opinion piece, "The issue isn’t that he’s crass, it’s that he’s a bad businessman!” Barsky went on to confess his complicity with business journalism of fueling the myth of Trump success.
Finance scholars at an ivy league business school, as I recall it was, did a study examining how he invested his inherited fortune, and concluded he would have squandered less and improved his returns had it simply been invested in a broad blue-chip stock portfolio.
And such assessments set aside the larger issue, namely the countless litany of examples where Trump has made decisions that illustrate his abysmally poor managerial abilities. Bluntly, the man’s an incompetent business buffoon, outshined in skill by a long line of prepubescent lemonade stand operators.
In my estimation, Trump jealously guards his tax returns not because of whatever Russian connections they might reveal — and I suspect he has some to hide — but rather because they’ll expose him for the business fraud he really is — someone who, stripped of the assets he holds through various commercial enterprises and shell companies, might turn out to be nearly destitute of personal wealth. We already know him to be morally, ethically and intellectually bankrupt, so that he is by the other measure also should come as no surprise.
If we could only be rid of the Electoral College, gerrymandering, politicized voter registration purging, politicized polling locations and hours, out of state money in election campaigns, non-proportional, winner take all elections, money in politics, politically uneducated, non-critical-thinking voters, closed source, proprietary voting machines without hardcopy backup, political parties that don’t rigorously do background checks of honesty, integrity and willingness to serve 100% of population as described in Constitution, representatives that run for office without the math, science, economic and technical skills to do their jobs efficiently and effectively, representatives with obligations to industry lobbyists or wealthy benefactors, et cetera, THEN, we would not need people like Mueller.
. I would love to see mandatory voting. That would be a real representational democracy. In the meantime we’re stuck with what we have. Now if Mueller can get those tax records out and find the hidden books there’s a good chance he will find lots of evidence of wrongdoing,
We have to stand up to trump, just as we have to stand up to the klan members and Nazis. It appears that we have been sidetracked, but we have to continue to remember the Russian investigation as well. I like the idea of cowering nazis and klan members, not emboldened ones. Who knows when it will be before trump realizes this isn’t worth it to him? Poor lbj could hear the chanting inside the White House walls during Vietnam. Trump must hear us now. It is not up to us to prosecute the Russian investigation, though we remember it must continue.
