This is my favorite story arc in Bloom County. So much going on. The mothers courage to fight on despite both her sons illness and her poverty. The boys ability to be a normal kid and trust that his Mom will make it all better. How it humanizes the horrible Steve Dallas. And still manages to give a kick to modern society.
Go home, get the dog, take the dog to the hospital. Smuggle the dog past the nurses’ stand, then watch them TRY to pull the dog away!Sorry, I missed if the dog ever got a name, and I miss his/her comforting presence for Sam.
Sam the Lion has a way with words that cuts the BS and tells what his world is really like: the Icy You? What else? Goober driverless? Of course (especially since I’ve seen the next strip over on that social networking site).
Here’s to Sam and his battle against the Imperial drones! Leukemia took an aunt and an uncle of mine years ago. Never Forget!
