Good morning, Vagabonds. I’m glad I finished doing my laundry before the storm started. And this Sunday’s the Indian Independence day Parade on Madison Av; I’m looking forward to watching it if I can manage to get my rollator down the subway stairs at my subway station (no elevator)

    Morning, Village!

    .

I’m really making some progress in my genealogy study! I haven’t broken through the emigration barrier yet, but I’m learning stuff about the family after they came to America than I ever thought I would. I also learned that my great grandmother, who always claimed to be German, was actually from East Prussia, which explains why her name sounds so Polish, while the rest of the family’s names sound so German.

    Howdy Vagabonds

The forecast offers more sun in the morning, temperature in the upper 70s.

Well the rain stopped by afternoon yesterday and I got on to the fair grounds about three, and made the rounds down through the barns and up by the horse pulling pavilion (no action going on). Made it to Floral Hall then got a Maple creamie, that’s frozen custard in other parts of the country.

The truck pull was as always noisy, the street legals aren’t so bad, but, the modified trucks with no exhaust system what so ever, well, plug your ears.

150 yrs of the OCF and I’ve been going to it for 50+. (love it)Well, I’ve been at this long enough. May God bless you and keep you.

    Good morning, Vagabonds,

To add my take on the day………..after about 5:00 p.m. we had to keep everything closed up because the smoke moved in from the west. It was so thick and ugly that I thought we were actually IN the fire zone, not hundreds of miles away. This morning, it has lifted. Blue skies, and our windows are open to cool down the house. Thank God this didn’t happen last month when it was in the 90’s!

In preparation for our big Solar Eclipse event, we watched “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” last night. Need I say more?

    Enjoy your day, Everyone

    Happy Trails.

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

We picked up some eclipse viewing glasses in Las Vegas before we left. Then I did some research online and found that there are a lot of poorly made ones that will not protect your eyes at all. There is a website that lists all the reputable manufacturers of these glasses, and I found that ours are good. If you have a pair, do some research before you use them. (Sorry, I do not remember the website.)

We should get about 82% of the eclipse here. We plan to head up to the same vista point where we watched the sunset the other evening. It should be a pretty good view.

Today we are heading over to Lake Tahoe to be a tourist. The plan is to drive all the way around the lake if we can.

    Everyone have a blessed day.

    Good morning Vagabonds.

Slightly overcast right now but no rain yet. Hope it will hold off until evening so we can get the party in. Temp is climbing through the 70’s on it’s way to the 80’s with high humidity.

My grandson has a friend who is a pilot so they are flying to Missouri to see the eclipse.

We will only see a partial one around here.

Nothing else going on around here so hope all have a good day.

Good morning, Vagabonds. I’m getting a little hesitant about going to the Indian Independence Day Parade. I’m unable to stand for a long time, but if I take my rollator it means dragging it down the subway stairs at my station as there’s no elevator.

Dark old morning and cool, but, the forecast says 74 by noon.

Another pleasant Sunday and I’m going to lay low. Have a good one all.

    Good morning, Village,

We were able to open windows during the night. The evening breeze was coming from the southwest and cleaned the smoke out for a few hours. You can see it in the distance, so we’re okay to leave the windows open for a while. Those poor firefighters who have to endure this full time! When we drove over to Spokane a few weeks ago we saw a f.f. camp at a small airport. There were hundreds of pup tents and several large mess hall style tents. My guess is this is a base for the guys and girls to grab some much needed sleep and grub. These folks are our true heroes!

How was the lake, Jan? Were you able to drive all around it?

Oh, Mark, Jack pulled out his really old DVD of Commando Cody and the Radar Men from the Moon. He remembers seeing these as a Saturday matinee each week. The episodes are so funny and hokey. This group has Clayton Moore in it as a bad guy! And, it was filmed up at the Iverson Ranch (Lone Ranger) in Chatsworth. (About a mile from where we used to live.) And it’s all condos now!

    Enjoy your day.

    Happy Trails

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

Rita, it used to be true that having the ISO code printed on the glasses was an indication that they are safe. Unfortunately, some of the more unscrupulous fakes are now printing that on their unsafe glasses, so the site I found recommended checking the manufacturer. Here’s a link to a site that explains the problem, and they have a link to the list of reputable manufacturers. https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/iso-certification

We did drive all the way around Lake Tahoe yesterday. The lake is beautiful, but being Saturday with perfect weather, it was so crowded that every inch of available space to park was taken. We couldn’t even find a spot to take a photo. There are sections of the road that skirt right along the edge of the lake, and other sections that take you inland away from the water for a while. A couple of casinos were built right on the California/Nevada border, and I do mean inches inside Nevada. At the other border at the north end, is the Cal Neva Lodge, Frank Sinatra’s old place. It has been closed for renovations for 3 years, and last June the developer filed bankruptcy on the property, so no one really knows what will happen to it. (Developers form a Limited Liability Company that actually owns each property. It is a separate legal entity so they can treat each project individually – getting loans, handling legal issues, bankruptcy, etc. – without involving the rest of the company or its projects.)

Sometime this week, I plan to drive back down there just to find a place to take photos.

By the way, I got the name of the poodle & his owners wrong the other day. His name is Flanagan and his owners are Bob and Rosemary. Don’t ask me where the other names came from, mid-air I suppose.

There is a Calvary Chapel in Truckee, and I’m off this morning to their 10:00 service.

    Everyone have a blessed day.
