Given the setup, I was expecting EXTINCT!!…except for the fact that they found someone using manual typewriters (with fabric ribbons) for their espionage work, since they don’t leak electronic signals nor leave impressions in carbon ribbons for someone to figure out what they’re doing.

Sadly, pulse dialing IS obsolete here, though not everywhere. Analog signals won’t work any more.
But even if their lines are all digital too,
someone may have kindly installed a converter in her system, unbeknownst to her,
just to let her continue to enjoy her hard-earned position as office dinosaur.
