I believe that Freedom of speech has been a big part of " the land of the the free, and the home of the brave".That was true when we were brave and free.We have NOT been Brave or Free since before or around the time of,,1. since H.W. Bush was President, or2. Since there has been the swing of the extreme radical republicans took control, or3. The coup that took place at the time of the Kennedy assassination.4. It is the end of the world as we know it, but we are NOT feeling fine.The end of The American Dream, or since Trump can rest assured that millions of us lose any semblance of health coverage.Since any safety nets for the less “fortunate” goes away leaving millions homeless or rounded up into FEMA Camps.
After a few tens of millions lose health insurance and more tens of millions have to pay double or triple I suspect they will be voting for anybody but Trump. It will be even worse than that when his mental instability causes something really bad to happen like a major war.
Drumpf’s biggest challenge in 2020, IF he survives that long, WILL NOT come from a Democratic Candidate, but from more Intelligent Republicans recognizing the FACT that he’s killing the G.O.P. and running against him on a much more moderate platform!
You have the right to say whatever you want (short of shouting “Fire” in a crowded auditorium), but likewise I have the right to point out that your speech is hateful and inappropriate. I have the right to point out when your speech becomes untruthful. It cuts all ways.
One problem: There is no fundamental right to be wrong. (Where does the left come up with this hogwash? Imagine any kid trying this line on his parents?)
“Freedom” entails Responsibility. “Free Speech” does not give you the right to lie or threaten or in any other way put the lives, health or property of others at risk.
Free speech should not allow for lying in public office or in an official capacity that can cause harm. Inciting to riot is not covered. Taking offense is not a reason to suppress it. Responding to it should also be covered. But only verbally or on paper. Never by violence which has never been covered under that part of the First Amendment.
