I always thought that title belonged to the Rolling Stones who quit making music in the early ‘70s and have been concentrating on making money since then. Then again, having been a fan of the world’s hardest working band for a long time, it’s not fair for me to set standards for bands like U2 that just play the same stuff over and over and over.
Meanwhile skungy Robert Plant goes around appropriating Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin. I guess you’re too young to be offended by the Led Zep money machine?
To be fair to U2 and numerous other bands, they are giving the people what they want. Speaking of that, I saw the Kinks once and I might have well listened to a greatest hits disc. They played exactly one hour and played only their hits. I saw Emerson, Lake and Palmer and Jethro Tull and the crowd went nuts for “Aqualung” and “Locomotive Breath” and likewise for “Lucky Man”. When they played newer stuff that I thought was better everyone sat on their hands. People can be so closed in their thinking, whether it is politics or music.

If you look closely at Bono you can see the autopsy scars.

It isn’t lazy if you work enough to have millions of fans and bazillions of dollars in profit.

How many Farewell Tours have The Who had? The first one I saw was in the early 1980’s.

That should be “…might as well have listened…” in the second sentence.
