My grandparents, who raised me were Republicans and also union members. I’m sure that they would not recognize today’s GOP.
I guess that many of the establishment Republicans come from families like mine and remember when the party had a bigger tent and was more for the working man than today’s leaders yet continue voting Republican hoping they will get back on track.
Trump seemed to be for the workers during the campaign but seems more self-centered and clueless in office.
Speaking of snowflakes, yesterday Trump uses his commencement address to the Coast Guard Academy to complain about how he is being mistreated by the media. How’s that for inspiration?
@superposition. My parents were dyed in the wool republicans, so I understand your comment from that perspective. And I know you to be a fair-minded commenter here—rational, even, with your superpositional insights.
But the “self-centered and clueless” part of today’s comment is in error. The mental illness trump suffers from is real. If you’ve never seen this sort of thing up close, it’s really hard to grasp. With poor pathetic trump, it’s all about the mental and emotional incapacity that are by-products of his condition. These things don’t get better often, especially with all of his money and his advanced age.
So don’t be surprised to see the behaviors continue. He literally cannot help himself. His illness fuels compulsive behavior and by now his brain’s pathways are sufficiently myelinated to have robust persistence. Expect more of the same. There is no sly and clever plan. There is no grand scheme. There is no cunning. Just ignorance and sociopathic narcissism with ADHD.
Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.
“Look at the way I’ve been treated lately,” Trump said, with a broad shrug. “Especially by the media. No politician in history—and I say this with great surety—has been treated worse or more unfairly.” After that splendidly ahistorical reminder of how fine the line is between self-aggrandizement and self-pity, Trump continued, “You can’t let them get you down. You can’t let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams.” At that, there was a smattering of applause, which Trump sucked in as if he were a mylar balloon in need of a hit of helium. “I guess that’s why we won,” he said.
He reminds me of a Benny Hill routine where one mans says, “I’ve never been so insulted in my life.”The other man responds, “Your problem is that you don’t get out enough.”
You know, the one who replace that awful Obama and is now in the process of making America great again.
By the astonishing revelation that health care is complicated. I mean, who knew?

It’s good to remember that Trump is the overwhelming choice of the Republican base and is supported completely by McConnel, Ryan, and the entire Republican leadership. Trump is NOT an outlier among Republicans.
That elephant would be crying “he’s on my side of the seat!!” while Trump is blaming the guys in the back seat for the fast decent they are taking on Trump’s best car route ever that you don’t understand because of his biggly driving skills.

The repubs are taking the US down with their greed and denial. Then there is the Rump himself crying on tv that everyone is picking on him.
