hmm…burying it? Brian probably wouldn’t be meeting them here. I guess that they already have shovels in the trunk (for late-night graveyard forays).

Big Margie seems to have no problems looking over the steering wheel.

So putting it into one of the deep holes that will be filled with concrete. That would do it. And no one is at the site for an hour. Pays to know people.

All sorts of interesting things happen at construction sites after hours …

The third frame is an absolute classic but I think it looks better in black and white.

At least no one will notice the bright green suit or bright yellow coat/hat combo if they stay in the car. I question the logic here.

Yeah park the car and sneak up on them on foot. That yellow raincoat sticks out like a tarantula on angel food.

The tradition of the yellow coat and hat in Dick Tracy (plus the use of primary colors generally) goes back to the strip’s origins. The Sunday color supplements that newspapers published in those early days used mostly primary colors, because the technology for fast rotary printing on newsprint was fairly limited, color-wise. In Chester Gould’s mind, the coat was a type of trench coat that fit right in with the fashion of the day. In at least one episode, it is referred to as a “camel’s hair” coat of rather high quality. Within the context of the strip, it is ordinary attire seen on the street. Gould never meant for it to stand out like a super-hero costume. After all, his original title for the strip was Plainclothes Tracy. Long time readers of Tracy understand this, and we enjoy the strip on multiple levels. We can be like Maynard G. Krebs in Dobie Gillis, who once referred to Dick Tracy’s “Big yellow coat”, but we also know that within the strip’s own “reality” Tracy is a plainclothes city detective.

I may be mistaken, but didn’t they start out in a squad car with a huge light bar on top? If Tracyville is Chicago, I have no doubt it was stolen and is in a pawn shop.

The only reason the singing team of Sam & Dick are there is to investigate the stolen money. There is nothing thus far to give the boys reason to think the ghostly Trio are involved in anything else. WE know they are because we’re reading the strip. There’s no logical reason not to pull them over with the Satchel in their grubby little paws.

Right idea MorrowC but wrong car! The hubcaps on the Margie’s car have changed, although I’m sure the choir of defenders have already begun the chorus of “Different wheels, different hubcaps”! LOL!!!

Just be careful when proceeding on foot, Dick and Sam. An ambush at a construction is all too easily sprung. I cannot begin to count in how many movies the old “fight at the construction site” (or equivalent “abandoned factory/warehouse”) has been featured!I wouldn’t expect fisticuffs from Big and Middle Margie, but a shovel over the head, or a lead pipe, would do just fine….

Don’t they lock the gates at night at construction sites in Tracy’s city? To be fair, the arrowrk is really superb today — I agree the last panel is classic Tracy, & drawing something dynamic like one car following another can be really hard to do. Shelley really pulls it off here.
