Bernice and Emo are not the only thing that was hit off.

Nancy: “Why are you at the hospital?”

Luann: “I slipped on the lane, dropped the ball, landed on it, and the proctologist is extracting it now.”

Luann must be drugged! No one in real life, with what she’s just been through, could possibly respond that way. This is the most unreal thing I’ve recalled seeing in the strip. Including any notion that Bernice and Nil have hit it off.

The Old Story.

Guy leaves his cat with his brother while he’s out of town. He calls up his brother to ask how the cat is. The brother says, “The cat’s dead.”

“Geez!” The guy says, “The least you could do is break the news to me gently. Maybe say the cat was on the roof, then it fell off and broke its leg, and had to be euthanized.”

So then, as an afterthought, the guy asks his brother, “How’s mom?”

To which the brother replies …

“She’s on the roof.”

So now we have to wait until Monday (if then) to find out if Luann’s foot is broken and now Nancy reacted. Oh, and if she’s IN the hospital, rather than in the waiting room, this could be more than a broken foot.

I didn’t get it at first – but yeah – pain meds. Way too soon for that smile…

Really off topic – a few days ago, one of you mentioned working with Collins radio equipment. What was it? A 30L1? I used to work with the 30S1, but you couldn’t drop that one; it was the size of a small refrigerator! A quick shout out to anyone who has ever worked with the Collins KWM2A family of amateur and military radio equipment!

Let’s see: Luann got Hurt while with Jack and ends up in a Hospital with undetermined Injuries. On the Other hand, Luann once got hurt while with Gunther and He carried UP a Ravine, tended Her injuries and bought Her back to Safety.

Yep, I can certainly see why Gunther and Luann Don’t belong with each other.

Since when do people get admitted to the hospital for a broken foot?!

Bernice discovered that Piro is also in the E.R. Somehow, he dropped a TV on his foot.

Luann buried the lead in that it looks like she has a new boyfriend.

Quick comment on the “must be the drugs” comments. Pain killers are not “uppers”. They don’t make you chatty, or happy. Pain killers, the ones you get in the hospital, are mainly opioids and would be considered “downers”. The fact that Luann is pumped about her strike and kinda likes jack is not a side effect of a pain killer.

Jack will be handy for her recovery. He will carry Luann wherever she likes.

“So, anyway, Jack and I were married by the hospital chaplain.”

BTW, I have a heck of a rough time telling if i am still in an expanded thread or have moved out of it. Yes, i know there is a line on the side of the threads, but it is horribly thin and terribly light grey so almost white. I have to stare and stare to even see it and then i only can if my eye is not tired. So, i wish they woukd consider asking people w visual limitations what works, but people have offered time and again, only to be ignored.

Uh, no, I really don’t think Luann is actually all that hyped up, on drugs or otherwise. She is simply trying to establish in her mother’s mind that her present condition isn’t all that horrible before she drops the bomb on her about her injury.

BTW… yesterday RSH was wondering:

I wonder if there will be some hospital scenes (that would mean Greg has to draw some different environments and characters).. or will we just cut to Luann at home with a foot boot…the lower hanging fruit from the sketching standpoint.

Guess it’s not a good idea to question background drawing skills around here…. Ta Daah! No backgrounds at all! ;p

Luann’s just trying to put the best spin on things to allay her mom going ballistic.

Bern and Nil ARE getting along! Naysayers don’t understand the type. They only relate to Luann and Jack while I don’t. I don’t get that Luann thinks Jack is easygoing and funny – he is a meathead and a player. She fails to see that – perhaps eventually, she will. Bern and Nil, I get. Both are academics, intellectuals, a bit weird – ok, maybe a lot weird, a bit insensitive, snarky….I can relate to that because I am more like them than Luann or Jack. Kids like them, to me, are fakes, loud, dramatic, thoughtless, dimwits (which was why Quill lost interest in her and re-directed his attention to the theater – possibly women there too). Luann and Jack are just average kids – so average both are uninteresting. I want more Nil and Bern.

A major rule when reaching adulthood: DO NOT ever ever ever call your ma from the ER. Just don’t. Not even if you need a ride home.

Luann won’t need Jack to carry her around. She’ll get good with the crutches in a few days. I hope Lu cools off on Jack. He ain’t that bright…

Sadly, I doubt this will happen as Greg and Karen tend to focus more on relationships between characters.

But in the short term, I expect Nancy will go racing over to the hospital with those wide popping out eyes that she has when shocked.

Luann’s priorities are in order! She doesn’t want to upset Nancy, and that’s a good sign….

So it looks like Luan & Jack, at least for awhile. Here’s an idea for a running joke: Lu & Jack go on dates, and every time he accidentally injures her. At the start of each date, readers could have fun speculating which body part(s) would get injured this time.

We’ll see if Luann’s parents sue Jack’s insurance for her medical expenses. This is going to be very expensive and it was 100% Jack’s fault.

Medical care isn’t expensive in comics. The state of the medical care “system” in the U.S. is so ridiculous, no comic could complete. So they pretend it works well and doesn’t cost an absurd amount.

I wonder if Zebo will design a cast for Luann?
