Now why did Reid work to get rid of the filibuster on judgeships? Because the Party of NO wouldn’t approve any judges anywhere. The press seems to forget that. When you’re elected, you’re supposed to govern. The Republicans haven’t done that for decades.
More republican revisionism I see. The Reid exemption EXEMPTED those appointments because they thought a nuclear response was unfair to a minority. Not so the current senate. Had the revision not taken place more than 200 democratic appointments would have been blocked. But you don’t care because those were Democratic nominations. So, what’s next, is the Senate going to go truly constitutional and end individual senatorial privilege blocks? A constitutional, democratic organization finally, after more than 200 years. How conservative!
Personally, I hope the Democrats filibuster every scrap of legislation and force McConnell to kill the filibuster on legislation. ASAP. That’ll turn out the voters in 2020. Voting would actually matter again!
So I guess the opposite of this will be not allowing votes on any Supreme Court justice when the Senate is in the opposing party. I also noticed that said lower court nominations, the Supreme Court nuclear option is the McConnell rule, and has nothing to do with what Reid did. This is the Republicans Congress, and they decided to do this. I hope their sword was worth it.
Harry Reid made the change because of unprecedented filibusters on every Obama nomination. Several of the nominees were approved overwhelmingly or even unanimously once they finally came up for the vote, so this was pure obstructionism on the part of the Repubs. The Dems filibuster ONCE and McConnell invokes the nuke. I’m pretty certain that McConnell would have nuked the filibuster even if Reid had not done so for the lower courts.
So, as usual, it was wrong for Senator Reid, but perfectly correct for McConnell. I guess Senator Reid is now McConnell’s role model and he’ll actually start working for the people. Fat chance of that!

I’d like to see both Reid and McConnell dumped on one of those cartoon-style desert islands, preferably in shark-infested waters.
