I think he just described the Middle Class: Not poor enough to get the benefits the poor get but not rich enough to get the benefits the rich get.
TO never was as good as he thought he was. Note that no one, not even the Cowboys were willing to put up with his BS. IOW, his ego greatly exceeded his talent
