It’s like RoundUp, but with FIRE!

Fewer CO2 emissions that way.

My dad used to burn off the lawn when I was a kid. Doing that not only killed the weed seeds but killed the insect eggs as well. He used to let me stand by with the water hose in case it was needed. That was part of life in a small town. Can’t do that in any sized town these days.

With the amount of dollar weed that grew up over the winter, I think a controlled burn is my best option. Of course, it is not even an option as my HOA would get all upset!

(OK, that is just a joke, please don’t report me.)

Well, a controlled burn would be a good idea. I’ve long said that I want to “mow” my lawn once a year. With a match. Can’t do that inside city limits, though.

On Midwest farms it’s standard practice to burn off the pastures in the spring. Remember the wildfires in Oklahoma a couple weeks ago? That’s what happens when the wind picks up a little.

I have a friend who raked his leaves into a pile well away from his house and set the pile on fire. But some adjacent leaves caught fire and spread the fire to more leaves and eventually burned the entire house down.

Funny – I just had weed killer used on my property yesterday. I also decided not to go with a controlled (or uncontrolled) burn.

Coulda used a weed torch to get the snow off my parking pad this week.

People in South Carolina burn their lawns and fields frequently. And manage to burn down telephone poles, homes, etc.
