It’s frustrating to see old grievances remembered so strongly that a reconciliation is not easily seen as possible. While Korea was no longer part of the Japanese empire at the end of WWII, the North Koreans kidnapped Japanese to train spies to keep the animosity going it seems. And because of the kidnappings and denials there are strong feeling against North Korea. While South Korea and Japan are trading partners there are so injured feeling on the part of the South Koreans.
That second flag doesn’t just represent North Korea’s view of Japan; it’s North Korea’s view of the rest of the world. The North Korean regime considers the existence of nations or cultures that are both non-despotic and prosperous to be a threat to their totalitarian way of life.

Considering that Japan has the tools, the talent and the plutonium, it could have nukes now and no one would know till they hit Pyongyang with them.
