The obvious retort: Life is too short to wait 30 seconds!

He’s just showing off in front of the damselflies.

(He hopes that at least one of them might be in distress.)

I was told that mayflies don’t eat, and in fact don’t even have a digestive system in the adult phase.

I never understood that rule. I mean… why wait 30 seconds (1hour) before swimming after eating? I’ve swam after eating and nothing ever happened •_•

An “old wives tale”? My mother was an old wife, and she knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that if we (her) kids went in swimming before an hour had passed after we ate, we would get cramps and drown, period, end of discussion. We would point out other kids who ate, hadn’t waited and lived to tell the story. Well, “their mothers don’t care if their kids drown; I do!"

Of course, our mother also knew for a fact that bats would get tangled in a female’s hair and mice would run up a female’s legs, etc. She was often wrong but never uncertain, bless her.
