If you missed seeing Putins new year’s speech, how encouraging and caring he spoke to his people, all of his people, you can see Putin is the best thing trump has done is to be friendly to this man.Do yourself a favor and visit this site on You Tube.
Hillary pointed out how crooked Putin’s election was so Putin hacked our election and threw it to Trump. The right wingers are as happy as pigs in swill.
Maybe Trump isn’t stupid, but whatever intelligence he has gets overwhelmed by his narcissism. He has made this whole Russian hacking story worse by insisting that it didn’t happen. If he had said, “Well, that’s terrible, but at least it didn’t make a difference in the actual vote count”, it would be a smaller story, but for some reason he has to attack the intelligence agencies he is going to have to depend on. This is not smart.
Calvin and Hobbs has long given us insight to a Trump campaign and “administration”. Ignore the wise advice of the tiger, even though a stuffed animal has more wisdom than the kid will ever have. Constant danger is what such immaturity, and authoritarian refusal to accept facts, leads us indeed to the “Calvin rules” presidency.
I don’t claim to be able to make a medical diagnosis of Trump, but I can make a judgment of him as we all do all the time of the people we know or the people we read about. In non-technical terminology, he’s a stupid jerk.
First: Since your response to twclix was a complete put-down, meant to be an insult, what did you expect from others in response to you?
Second: Your claim of Natural Law is absurd to someone like me who is a research scientist in the life sciences (40+ yrs experience). And I might mention that much of my work has been in the area of neuroscience. To me, what you are invoking is a form of “magical thinking” that accords with your political orientation, not anything that actually is the result of the study of scientific reality. I would recommend that you read Kahneman’s “Thinking, Fast and Slow” to get an idea of how the human brain works and Weinberg’s “To Explain the World” for an understanding of how science developed and is done today. Finally, I would strongly recommend that you look into current work on the biological basis of morality. Jonathon Haidt’s work is a good place to start and much is available in forms easily accessible to the layman. His paper on libertarian morals might be of particular interest to someone of your orientation (Iyer R et al. PLOS One 7(8):e42366, 2012).
I’m not all that into philosophy in one sense, but I do find that the kinds of questions someone like Rawls brings up in reference to political thought are useful. However, I do find that the kinds of arguments on something like “Natural Law” are rather silly. I’d rather stick to the testable and somewhat verifiable disciplines like neuroscience and psychology (That John Locke labels “astrology”). At least I can localize to some degree the source of fight-or-flight responses or tolerance to uncertainty in various brain structures.
As far as our evolutionary background goes, the fact that we are descended from a line leading to one of the most eusocial species around is probably of more significance than anything else for determination of moral structures. But I doubt that John Locke would accept that kind of analysis or the conclusions that come from it.
BTW, have you seen the reviews of “Other Minds” by Godfrey-Smith? It’s about cephalopod cognition and looks fascinating. I know about about cephalopods—-they have a decent claim to be the primates of the invertebrates.
Wait a minute, instead of a hammer and sickle, there should be a photo of Trump in the upper left comer of the flag. Do it now or Donnie will twitter you to death.
Clearly GoComics is trying to get rid of their political comment function with all the hurdles they are putting in. Where else does anyone go for political discourse ?
