Ah - MORE comics. I thought he meant bigger, easier to read ones. It’s harder to make a zoom button for a newspaper.

Ah, for the glory days of newspaper comics… Having the best comics selection was a major selling point in multi-paper markets, and when a popular strip was wangled from a competitor it was front-page news - “Read Little Orphan Annie - Only in the Sun!”. On Sundays every strip had an entire page to itself, and the dailies were big enough to actually contain art…

For all that Peanuts was the most popular and arguably the best strip ever, its style was such that it lost little by being shrunk (most Peanuts strips would still be clear if each panel were the size of a postage stamp). When editors and syndicates started demanding “Give me a strip like Sparky’s”, it eventually came to mean “Give me something I can run small.”

Lone Wolf - Toon-aholics! I like that. I miss the days when I didn’t need my glasses to read the comics (ok, it’s NOT just because they’ve gotten so small lol) Good morning BC’ers!

I must agree with Gweedo and Doc on the Colorado Papers. I always preferred the Rocky Mtn. News. I’m still hoping the post holds on though, just for the sake of family that was able to stay employeed with them.

I always read the comics first and then ease into the rest of the news. If the news is too heavy, I reread some comics to bring some fresh air and sunshine to my mind.

Albert Alligator in “Pogo” had the right idea: Albert was in his house, sitting in the dark, when Pogo arrives.

Pogo asks “What are you doin’ in the dark, Albert?”

“I’m readin’ the newspaper,” Albert says.

Pogo asks “Wha’fo you doin’ that?”

Albert replies “The way the news is these days, it’s best to kind of sneak up on it.”

Sign me up for magnamax’s paper, too.

“We have met the enemy, and he is us!” Pogo is my all-time fave strip, mainly because of its longevity, great cast of characters,wonderful jokes, story arcs and artwork. It edges out C&H by a whisker.
