Don’t base jumpers require steerable parachutes? I doubt Id has the level of chute tech; which would make base jumping much more…exciting.
Furthermore, how does the king know that the ADORING SUBJECT who runs the place didn’t ever-so-subtly rig his parachute?

I was invited to skydive once. At least you can act on your own a cord there.
I think it was a stand-up comic in All That Jazz who said “Babies are born with a fear of loud noises and a fear of falling. I have a fear of making a loud noise while falling”.
