Unlike the build up to the World Cup, there has been a dearth of promotion and hoopla, here in South America, for the Rio Olympics. Even ESPN’s promos seem tepid.
Oddly, I suspect that if the IOC wimps out and allows Russia to compete despite their doping practices, there will be even more athletes “dropping out” using Zika virus as an excuse.It may seem like contrary thinking but many countries and their “clean” athletes are pretty pissed off at how much the IOC has let Russia get away with in the past and awarding them the next olympic venue.
This may spell the beginning of the end for the Olympics, as we’ve known them. If the suckers ain’t buyin’
