Sounds about right. My sister (three years older to the day) and I used to fight like cats and dogs until she headed off to college. By the time I got out of high school, we’d made our peace and were friends. I’m so glad we reached that point because she passed away a month after her 26th birthday and I’d feel even worse if we’d still been battling things out. Some siblings never get past that stage.
I quit fighting with my kid brother when he got big enough to put a serious whoopin’ on me.He’s been gone for 2 1/2 years, now, and there’s not a day goes by that I don’t think about him.We were polar opposites in practically everything but we loved each other as only two brothers can.
I remember the book “Beezus and Ramona” bu Beverly Cleary, where Beezus feels guilty because “sometimes she just didn’t love” her bratty little sister Ramona. She keeps comparing their relationship to her Mom and Aunt Beatrice. When she finally confesses on her birthday, after Ramona has ruined two attempts by their mother to bake her a cake, leading to Aunt Beatrice picking up a bakery cake on the way over for her birthday dinner, Mom and Aunt Beatrice fill her in on some of their more spectacular childhood battles. She’s stunned that her Mom and Aunt fought just as much as children as she and Ramona.I asked my niece Melissa about this, and she verifies that she now considers her younger sister Jessica her best friend, now that they’re both raising kids of their own.

my mother and uncle (bless their souls) did quite some bickering back in their days as children, adolescents, and clear into their adulthoods

Yeah, I was 21 when I finally stopped beating the heck out of my brothers every time we fought. LOL

Be a parent, not a friend

My last screaming fight with my little brother was just before my husband I got married, so that was the summer of 1983. I was 32 & he was 31.
