“Let’s put this bunch in charge of all healthcare.”?#They already are in charge of healthcare! The ticket seller just has to flip the sign that says “VA Land” over. On the other side where it says: “Obama Care Land”! and they’re in business!!
It’s human nature to complain about everything. What you hear/read that’s negative about the VA sells commercials in the media. I’m a disabled ‘Nam era vet, damned proud to have served this great nation and damned happy to have the VA health system there for me! You talk about a dysfunctional health care system, the civilian system should be your target for major change. Those of us U.S. citizens who have good insurance and money get the best healthcare. Those of us U.S. citizens who don’t have money or good PAID healthcare (and, pardon my speech) suck hind teat. Any system of any kind can always be improved upon, but to constantly pick on the VA system only shows a lack of understanding. Yes, I have had to wait fairly long times for specialist care but never preventive care. When you look at the numbers of soldiers treated on any given day, the numbers are staggering! More money poured into the VA system can help but rabble rousing certainly won’t. Most of the talk I hear on the transfer bus, waiting rooms or hallways of the facilities I am treated at are positive. The services we served in had rules to follow. Most were to save your life! I still heard a percentage that complained about them. Same thing goes for the VA. If you do what you’re asked, follow the instructions, things get done! I’m walking God’s good earth because of the care I’ve received from the VA since 1973, and I thank them from the bottom of heart.
I with the GOP would fund benefits for Veterans as well, but this would cut into corporate welfare. If we could just get the president into more wars, maybe we wouldn’t have to worry about injured soldiers, like when W sent them to Iraq with no body armor.
Just a note, I couldn’t get in to see my “regular” civilian doc in less than six weeks. Called VA on the same issue and had to wait one week for the PA to make the regular trip to our remote clinic. Thanks to Republican’s in Congress, staff and funding cuts have now eliminated our remote clinic, so it’s 100 miles to the nearest VA facility.
<br)BUT, with the new access program in place, being over 40 miles from a VA site, my son and I can see our regular civilian docs here in town, but it still can take a while to get in.

My friend deals with VA and doesn’t have a problem. Is it regional or everywhere?
