It’s human nature to complain about everything. What you hear/read that’s negative about the VA sells commercials in the media. I’m a disabled ‘Nam era vet, damned proud to have served this great nation and damned happy to have the VA health system there for me! You talk about a dysfunctional health care system, the civilian system should be your target for major change. Those of us U.S. citizens who have good insurance and money get the best healthcare. Those of us U.S. citizens who don’t have money or good PAID healthcare (and, pardon my speech) suck hind teat. Any system of any kind can always be improved upon, but to constantly pick on the VA system only shows a lack of understanding. Yes, I have had to wait fairly long times for specialist care but never preventive care. When you look at the numbers of soldiers treated on any given day, the numbers are staggering! More money poured into the VA system can help but rabble rousing certainly won’t. Most of the talk I hear on the transfer bus, waiting rooms or hallways of the facilities I am treated at are positive. The services we served in had rules to follow. Most were to save your life! I still heard a percentage that complained about them. Same thing goes for the VA. If you do what you’re asked, follow the instructions, things get done! I’m walking God’s good earth because of the care I’ve received from the VA since 1973, and I thank them from the bottom of heart.
