This strip basically describes the message behind a majority of the political stories on most of the news platforms in the US from Breitbart, OANN, The Media Wire and Fox on the far right to CNN, Politoco and Time in the center to more progressive voices like MSNBC. The stories are suited for the target demographic of each outlet.
Back in the 70s and 80s there was a big movement by mothers and educators to get television to be more interactive. Several experiments were tried, but the technology of the day was just not up to the task.
Today, we have interactive TV, mainly in the form of video games, but also TV on-demand where you control when to start and stop and when to watch. So, are parents satisfied with this situation now?
Your teeth must be whiter than white. Your laundry must be April Fresh. You must have the entire alphabet soup of Medicare coverages. Your nether regions must be dust-free, hair-free and scent-free. Channel Five was first on the scene of the fire in the Channel Five building, so obviously Channel Five is “the one to watch”. All the animals in the world will die if you don’t donate. All the children of the world will die if you don’t donate. All the people in foreign lands will die if you don’t donate.
I read an article that the “He Gets Us” advertising bombardment has to do with getting vulnerable people into rightwing churches or networks and harvesting them for political purposes. Including massive amounts of data collection.

I’m reminded of the VeggieTales Christmas special, “The Toy that Saved Christmas”. I can hear it in my head: “I want a Buzzsaw Louie! WAAAAAAAA!”
