Been there, done that (, bought the t-shirt.) Three solutions possible (at least where I live): grass-less landscaping, get an electric lawnmower (what I’m trying – actually cordless electric), hire a gardening service (tried that, didn’t care for the quality of their work. They had different goals than me – I want the yard to look good, they wanted to finish as fast as possible and collect their money.)

I’ll be glad when the community no long feels it necessary to have a smooth expanse of mutilated grass in everyone’s yard. It ain’t natural.

Had an electric corded and now a battery powered one. Push a button, mow. Well, there is the safety bar too, not that hard to use. I do have a gas powered snowblower though, there are 7 or 8 steps to start it, sheesh!

I haven’t mowed in several weeks. It’s been so hot that the grass stopped growing.

In my experience, clean out the air filter. Most people don’t think about it, but if it’s clogged with a year or two of dust and dirt, then not enough oxygen can get into the engine to aid combustion.

I laugh. I ditched the über expensive mowing service this year and with a mere 1/3 of the savings bought a top-of-the-line EGO battery-powered mower. It works great. I can mow my quarter acre on one charge of the battery, and even at the now inflated cost of electricity it still costs less than 20¢ to mow my entire lawn. No gas, no oil, almost no maintenance, and the thing folds up and stands against the wall out of the way. Bliss, almost. Now, about the ghastly heat and global roasting which is spoiling the fun…

Now if you had had an old-fashioned push lawnmower (i.e.,one person-power “engine”), you could have saved youreself 17369 pulls, one ax incident, a nervous breakdown, and the cost of a new lawnmower and of open-ended psychiatric care!

You have to weigh the pros and cons, always.

(Full Discover: as a teen, I often was assigned lawnmowing duty over at my aunt’s house; gas-powered. Usually worked with only one or a few pulls.)

The tree chopper beats the grass blade cutter.
