Yes! Just look at the state they’re in!

If you ask me, the whole neighborhood is going south.

(Not that there’s anything wrong with the South, of course.)

Is the west part of Maryland called a panhandle?..Don’t know much about panhandles, we specialize peninsulas in Michigan…We have peninsulas on peninsulas that are on other peninsulas…Even our Upper Peninsula has an upper peninsula….On Isle Royal there is a pretty good sized island on a large lake, which is on a larger island in a much larger Lake ….Yeah, we specialize in islands too…

GaijinrabbitAnd Alaska has two panhandles, one giving way to the Aleutians, the other containing the capitol.

kit_jeffersonOK, what about it? I got my masters from the University of North Texas, a long way and far more southerly than the Panhandle, which those not in the know think is North Texas. One could consider the transPecos as a panhandle, but no one does. Likewise, South Texas is from the King Ranch, or maybe Corpus, south and does not include Houston as some posting here claim – that is Gulf Coast even though the entire South Texas coast would be on the Gulf except for the barrier island called Padre. Regional names rarely make much sense, as undoubtedly those from other states can provide examples,
