Babelfish.com translates it as “Great sonata for piano hammer.”.Okay, it says “piano the hammer,” but that’s only because American English follows no law known to mankind…
Fortepiano. It was the precursor of the pianoforte. It had a much smaller octave range capability compared to what we now call a piano. It was the instrument for which Beethoven’s piano pieces were composed. Almost none of us has ever seen one much less heard one, so almost none of us has ever heard the music as Beethoven expected it to be heard. The oldest known piano in existence is a nearly three hundred year old fortepiano in a museum in New York City, which one I forget.
If I were you Charlie Brown, I would… have done the same thing. Also, is this the first time Schroeder speaks? Cause if it is, I wonder where did he learned such complicated speech.

Great comparison here between CB in panel 3 and CB in the Peanuts Begins thumbnail — similar pose, see how the character design is evolving.
Also, note the signature in this one!

No, you don’t, CB. Move along.

Beethoven’s use of Hammer Klavier is even more à propos in light of this.

Hammerklavier is an old German word for the piano (to differentiate it from the harpsichord and the clavichord, as Tsandl explains).

It’s also known as Piano Sonata No. 29 (which has a lot less cache, in my opinion). You can listen to all of it at the Wikipedia entry.
