Luann, I think you’re underage for a drink at the moment. Have a Shirley Temple instead.

But weren’t they working on getting a liquor license for the Fuse? So the taps make sense. Good for Pru for reigning in Lu in her ‘crazy’ moment in case she had any ideas of sampling. Don’t think she would though. I’m liking Pru more and more.

6It is nice that Pru is being supportive of Luann and her adventure and also of her “letting loose” once in a while. I had been thinking that “The Fuse” was going to be alcohol free… with a COFFEE bar or some such thing. But, with Pru’s reaction and the look of the bar featuring what sure look like beer taps… I must have been mistaken. So, with “The Fuse” apparently having beer, now the question will be… what is the adult market they are going to aim for? More “high-brow” microbrews, wine/cheese sorts of things to go with the more dramatic art scene? Or, will they go more “regular-folk” with domestic beers, hot dogs, fried foods…. with the “art” scene being more frequently things like open-mike nights, karaoke, harder music, etc?

    (A) Pru gets Luann and Bernice added to “the list” for the NYC hot night spot Club Foote, even though they’re underage (and they therefore get thrown out in 6 minutes).

    (B) Pru physically restrains Luann from sampling the beers at Kafe Kablooie (which her parents own), because she’s underage.

    Yep, totally consistent!

I think that people see some things differently and part of it is their own experiences and personalities that contribute. I also think that there are some people here who mostly see the negative all the time. I confess that I have a hard time with them in my own head, at least. I find it annoying when EVERY post ( almost) is snarking at the writing, or the authors, etc. I mean are you paying an admission ticket to get here? IF not then relax.

ALSO, why do so many people keep seeing QUILL as ‘cardboard’ cut-out? I think personally that he had ore character development than most. Although his parting shot to LUANN at the breakup was plenty mean, I see him as a young man capable of affection, and love, but focused on his goals. Sometimes the person who is on the bus with you at the beginning of the ride needs to get off. Their shared trip with you is over.

Back when I was a kid, I was allowed to have a sip of my Dad’s beer if he was having one or a sip of wine if that were being served even as young as 4 years old. However, my parents very rarely drank, so it was never a frequent occurrence…. perhaps I’d have a sip… two or three times a year. While I enjoyed getting those rare “sips” I actually thought the beer and wine were horrible. :)Alcohol was never a huge draw for me. I never drank (other than those sips) prior to reaching the legal age to drink. And, on the day I became of age, I had a couple of buddies drive me to three different bars that evening to get a free drink at each. Then we went back to my house and just talked and did our normal “hanging out”. The three drinks seemed anti-climatic…. but the birthday was fun before and after the miniature bar crawl. :)

Since Pru said that only that night would work for the club i think perhaps she made arrangements for them to get in just long enough to have a look and take a selfie, i.e. that she also arranged for Luann and Bernice to get carded, with the entire purpose being for them to have an extremely unusual thrill. It is consistent w the “safely opening their worlds a bit” theme.

Of course, NONE of us know, so commentors’ individual takes on that explore the possibilities, given the Evanes left it flexible. So we need to be somewhat flexible, too. If we are not flexible, then that and the preferred direction of inflexibility wind up saying far more about the interpretors than about the limited information being interpreted.

Ah, something else we have in common. Our larder includes two hot sauces just for me, a scorpion pepper one and a ghost pepper one. I find the various peppers to have very different tastes on my palate and the heat hits differently, not just in timing but where and how. Some i can even feel in my lungs and for me they reduce my asthma but people vary a LOT on that score. I love the flavor of beer, but am what used to be called “a cheap drunk”, i.e. I get tipsy easily, so i prefer beers with either low alcohol contents or no alcohol for the flavor because i find that beer is best in swigs rather than sips.

Considering what we’ve seen of the Pitts art scene in Zebu’s class, and considering the likely dramatic quality of productions such as “Yule Daze”, Mr. Gray had a good idea in deciding that patrons of the Fuse would likely welcome its having a liquor license.

Just saying here, seems sort of inconsistent that Pru gets Luann and Bern into a booze-filled club in NYC (without getting carded) and then puts her foot down with the Fuze’s bar.

I think you guys are missing the point. The whole point of Club Foote was to give them something exciting to take home with them. Didn’t matter at all that it was short-lived, nor did it matter that the place serves alcohol and they couldn’t partake. It was just the idea of giving them the thrill of getting to see the inside of an exclusive place that few get a chance to see, where celebs hang out. That was the thrill that Pru was going for, and it paid off in spades. They had a blast. There’s no incongruity or inconsistency here. Two separate subjects altogether.

Oh, my gosh! That is either the current hottest or next to hottest hot culinary pepper. WAY out of my range! I add my ghost pepper and my scorpian pepper sauces to foods, and the hottest here is 750,000 scovilles. Even the bird chilis i grow i use in foods. Well, i guess that is true for habaneros, too. Give me a peanut butter and habanero sandwich when i need comfort food! Well, or lo mein…

Pru seems more like a mother hen than a predatory lesbian. Almost all of the lesbians I have come in contact with over my many years have had a chip on their shoulder and a defiant attitude. Gay guys, on the other hand, are usually funny and make interesting company. Call me a narrow minded bigot if you want, but that has been my experience.

There’s beer, and there’s beer. Most mass-produced pilsners that fill the supermarket shelves are swill. Fortunately, the craft beer industry is now booming, with new small breweries springing up all over the country. A lot of them produce fine ales (and a few decent lagers, too).

Also, people’s sense of taste changes a lot as they age. Most kids hate vegetables like broccoli, spinach, and Brussels sprouts, but most adults aren’t bothered by them.

Hops is what gives beer its bitter taste, and most American beers have more hops than European beers. I especially like Scottish ales, since they are only lightly hopped. (Hops doesn’t grow well that far north, so the Scots don’t use much of it in their brewing.) Heavily malty beers don’t have at all the same flavor as hoppy beers. In particular, many stouts (which often use roasted barley) taste like coffee, and oatmeal or dairy stouts have a definite chocolate flavor.
