The point of the toon is that Steve Benson will generalize and profile a huge group people he has never met or spoken with. An initial fear reaction that he has not controlled.

The point of the ‘toon is that the same arguments used against same-sex marriage equality were some of the same arguments used against interracial marriage.

Learn your history. Interracial Marriage was banned on religious grounds until the mid 1970s.

Marriage is a union between two or more living organisms.

Jade, I’m not sure where you are from, but it isn’t the United States.

Petergrt - so my dog can now marry my neighbor’s parrot? I think she would rather eat it.

“Back in those days, the states that banned interracial marriage were all below the Mason-Dixon line–otherwise known as southern DEMOCRAT territory.”

So that means that all of the Republicans must be pro-marriage equality, since it’s a Civil Right, right? No. Okay then.

“Jade, I’m not sure where you are from, but it isn’t the United States.”

Socrates would be proud of the logic in this thread. The KKK voted democrat, and the KKK is predominantly a southern organization, ergo the South is Democrat.

Once again the Conservatives get angry so easily, and so blindly.

You may hate gays, you may think them unnatural, but how does their getting married have anything to do with you?

If I was going to do anything about marriage I would make it more difficult. After all why should two people who never met each other until they got drunk in Vegas be able to stumble out and get married by some guy dressed like Elvis?

“If I was going to do anything about marriage I would make it more difficult.”

I’d make divorce more difficult. All of these Righties belly-aching about “sanctity of marriage” and “threats to marriage” and they fail to do anything about divorce, prenuptials, any of it. That’s because they themselves are partaking often in the destruction of their marriages. This is simply about hatred, unsubstantiated religious bigotry. I have yet to see a single Divorce amendment placed in any state where same-sex marriage is banned. The only reason there was one brought up in California is because someone made it as a joke to make the Prop-8’ers put their votes where their mouth was. And it didn’t go anywhere. Same-sex marriage equality opponents are hypocritical liars.

“Many of the people who voted for the ban were BLACK.”

News Flash: Oppressed minorities can be bigots too.

The whole issue is intellectually dishonest:

It is not a matter of anti anything, but rather for the institution of marriage, as was distilled over 10,000+ years of human history - the full text:

Section 2. Article I. Section 7.5 is added to the California Constitution. to read:

Sec. 7.5. Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

Southern conservatives left the Democratic Party over civl rights vs States’ rights, like they had left the Union a hundred years previously. Nixon welcomed them as Joe SixPack.

    ^ +2!

I’m pro-gay marriage, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth; prop-8 was voted by the people.

Richard and Froggie, too late. The Parrot left a bad taste in my dog’s mouth. The wedding is off. The BBQ is on!

Dr. - Christ would. Do you think, even for a minute, that this has not happened in time and history?

fennec, my good man, I do not understand your confusion. I was referring to the history of the world. Only the Jews have been more persecuted than the Christians through the course of history. Dr - our reward is in heaven. And, just to set your thinking straight - those Christian couples who go to church weekly, kneel down together, and pray together, have a divorce rate of 5%, roughly one tenth of the national average, not higher. Look it up yourself. You wouldn’t accept any website that I would referrence, so I will not waste my time. And yes, OUR God is great.

^ “our reward is in heaven.” then you don’t have to worry about what goes on here…

WBR - “free warren jeff” why don’t you go share the cell with him ?

KEN WARREN - pay into “divorce insurance”, as low as $16.00 a month.

the only thing wrong with the picture in this ‘toon is that his belt/pants should be raised a few inches - then he’d be the far, far, far right (wrong) geek…

It took 138 pages of socio-legalistic pooop to explain why the 10-page US constitution precludes marriage to be defined as being only between a one man and a one woman … .

Considering the fact that significantly more than the 27-state majority have already let their sentiments be known, we might be looking at a bunch of amendments …

What if someday 51% of the people here become something other than Christian believers? renounce democracy? Will we just toss out the Constitution? Stop following the Law?
