Somehow I didn’t know Lacey was a Republican. Were she alive today she would be appalled.

Despite the violent Dirty Harry series and the spaghetti westerns, I had a very favorable opinion of Eastwood until the empty-chair incident. The WWII movies he directed were among the best. And he’s a talented musician. His daughter played opposite him in the improbably fantasy movie “Absolute Power.” She had such a strong resemblance to my sister-in-law at the same age that it was uncanny. But then came the empty chair. Someone said it was symbolic of the Republican Party: an elderly white man debating nobody.

I understand the empty chair at last. Eastwood thought he was in a Doonesbury strip and that the chair was the icon for some Democrat. No? Oh, well. He’s still got the professional talent that made him famous.Somebody in my neighborhood thought the chair thing was so clever that they put an empty chair out in their yard with a sign on it. Glad I don’t live next to them.

Why would he face down tourists? They spend money. (FWIW, when I was in Cali last month, I didn’t make it to Carmel on my way to Big Sur.)But I hear Clint has endorsed trump. Hard to avoid dementia at that age.

His lasting legacy is the Hog’s Breath bar in town. Nice place.

I was eating on the patio at the Hogs Breath back in the 70’s, and Clint walked by. He has a freakishly large head, even for a tall guy. Check his movies when he stands right next to someone.

Clint Eastwood’s speech at the 2102 Republican Convention. Well done for somebody who was 81 years old that year.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoqKdWY692k
