One of the commenters I looked for used a horn for an avatar and I had picked up that he was an Episcopal priest. Has he stopped commenting or changed his avatar? Would someone tell me his name so I can look for him. He always seemed so common sensed in his remarks that I always read them.
My brothers were five years apart with me in the middle. In those days, girls did not wear boys clothes, so I skipped the hand-me-down thing. Don, however got the benefit of all of Rick’s discards. Did my heart good at the time as Don & I were fighting ever since he was old enough to hit back. (We got over that a few years ago. He lives 3000 miles away, so no friction at all……)
My son and his older cousin knelt on opposite knees. This was great because the older cousin would almost wear out the left knee before handing down, then my son would wear out the right knee. The next younger cousin got cut-offs.
Hand-me-downs are great, in the family, we have snow suits that are over 30 years old and have been through a new “owner” every winter.
It is cool when an older cousin admires your dress shirt and comments that it used to be his.
I am the eldest of 3 girls and the one thing I HATED about hand me downs, was when I saw my younger sisters wearing a favourite article of clothing. On the other side of the coin it was absolutely wonderful when they had to wear a piece of clothing that I loathed!!
My mother was a bit of a seamstress. I remember going with her to the sewing store to buy cloth. For a dollar she could make me overalls. Of course this was when denim was 50 cents a yard. How much is it now?
I saved all my older boy’s pants for his younger brother, but the boys are different shapes. The older one always needed slims and the younger needed husky sizes.
And like ireg’s cousins, they wore out opposite knees
And when they were little, I wore out BOTH knees on MY jeans.
My 3 boys had few also. The first were only 1 year, and 10 days apart and started to wear same size by age 1, and even the youngest was a problem for that- then I had a girl and just wanted to make her pretty things (until she decided she wanted to dress tomboyish). A friend used the lovely outfits I made for her 3 girls and never returned any, which may be as well because there was probably little left. I still would have liked to show them to my 2 grand daughters.

haha good one - those overalls must have been bought too small for Michael, or else forgotten in the bottom drawer. Has happened here.

Look at that comb over Michael is sporting. The way his hairline is going, by the time he is in 3rd grade he will be sporting the Homer Simpson look.

I goggled it. wow. 2.50 a yard now. Makes ya wonder why those designer jeans are so $$ . I did not know it them but I had customize couture..LOL

Or maybe Michael just out-grew them before he had a chance to wear them out. Kids just grow so fast at that age!
