Funny cartoon, Gary!-The problem is, this Arrogant Dictator-in-Chief has already “amended” our Constitution without notifying anyone, much less our Founders!-And when Congress debated stricter gun regulations, it was a “Congressional Action” when they decided against doing so.-It is true that this side-rail track was begun long ago, when no one challenged the Feds taking away the Constitutional Rights of State Governments. There is no part of the Constitution, and no legally passed amendments giving the Federal Government a license to claim jurisdiction in education or medical services or insurance or welfare, etc. Those the Constitution gave to the jurisdiction of the states.Everything not clearly stated in the original constitution for the federal government (defense, foreign policy, etc.) clearly was left to the States.-Morality and Ethics shows that an all-powerful government that is not restrained continually by LAW will begin and expand oppression of citizens. That is the reason our Founders put private citizen defense into the Second Amendment….to protect us from a run-amok-with-power government!

It’s worked well for 240 years. But only for those who haven’t been, or whose families and friends haven’t been, gunned down.

Curbing gun ownership among those society determines should not be wielding a gun in no way goes against the Second Amendment.

IF Obama was somehow able to portal back in time, and was able to meet Messers Franklin, Adams and Jefferson, I think that they would be interested in what he has to say.

Actually, most Americans would just like to see the 2nd Amendment applied as it was Written, not the way the NRA’s Domestic Terrorist followers keep trying to Re-Write it. .A Well Regulated Militia being Necessary, …

@Tarred/Feathered…The NRA is a strong lobby because it has so many voluntary MEMBERS who are also American citizens and hopefully voters. That means that because long-time members stay in the organization and new members sign up as time passes, the NRA is voicing THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.-I havn’t forgotten American History 101….our rights are and were seen to be by our Founders and the Constitution given by God to mankind. The Government enforcing the Constitution is merely guaranteeing our God-given Rights.-Those of you that smear and demean the NRA are dishonest, IMO. NRA members and the organization itself teach and act in obedience to Laws. NRA (I’m not an owner of any gun but I support gun ownership) teaches and promotes education, training and safety in the handling of guns. NRA is thus not only the Voice of The People, it is a benefit to government and a peaceful society. The Conceal Carry laws in states prove that when criminals know the public may be armed, their crime rates go down. It is the Liberals who scream for 50 gun-free states, that aid and abet gun crimes. And no law of any kind can prevent criminals from obtaining guns by theft or black market.-I have never voted for any candidate who supported gun control, that I knew of. Ditto support for abortion and now support for laws destroying Biblical marriage and therefore destroying Biblical families. I try not to vote for EVIL.

I hope he didn’t go back to add a paragraph about a gun club/lobby group that cripples legislation and debate and gets to decide what regulation is.

    1. it isn’t just the # of exec. orders, it is what those orders say and cause to be done. Previous presidents weren’t trying to “change America”! Obama has created “new laws” by EOs several times. I cannot understand why the GOP members of Congress does nothing about it!-2. @nance19 oped…I don’t mind gun makers backing NRA. I assume gun manufacturers are also Americans with the God-given right of FREE SPEECH and freedom to choose how to spend their own earned and tax-paid money!- Gun ownership is a God-given right, and we all can’t manufacture our own guns! Isn’t it good to have many types and styles to choose from on any product?-“NRA pushed for laws blocking tracking of gun violence”???Police have laws governing investigations and there are plenty of organizations like ACLU that try to defend and protect criminals…the only group not getting helpful laws today are the law-abiding Americans trying to uphold the good government setup our Founders bequeathed to us.-@jack75287…thanks. (but I am an 83-year-old great-grandmother, high-school grad and life-long self-educated Christian American on the Conservative political side.)I am disgusted at our society lowering standards and perplexed at the attitudes of Americans with far more “education” than I had. With the Bible freely available, and all sorts of books on serious subjects easy to get even if you can’t afford to buy and go to a library. It is important to want to know what is right and what is wrong, IMO.

The adjustments were made in the 70s by the NRA nutjobs and then later once they got enough activist judges on the Supreme Court to change the obvious intentions of the founders. Now all the righwingers need is to get more of those judges so they can overrule 225 years of legal precedence to fit the mold of their moronic take on the word “executive” and what the founders thought that meant.

SCOTUS, even Scalia, have stated that when outside your home, “well regulated” is both Constitutional, and the law, and is merely what this EO calls for, in agreement with law and the Constitution.

If the founding fathers had ever seen an M-4, or MAC 10, or even a 9mm Glock, they’d have been a lot more restrictive as well. They were talking about muskets, muzzle loader pistols, and SWORDS, not semi-automatic weapons. In fact, they didn’t even have rifles, as rifled barrels didn’t even exist, greatly increasing the range of firearms and accuracy. That Hamliton died in his duel with Burr was btw, mostly bad luck.

Disgustedamericun: for quite a while my job required me to read new proposed laws, and all Executive Orders; “W” put out a lot more, and it was amazing how many violated laws passed by Congess, as well as failing the Constitution test, and as for his “signing statements”- totally outside the Constitutional power of the Executive Branch.

@dtroutma – The Modern Cult of Strict Interpretation of the Constitution word for word was Great for about 50 years after ratification. Unfortunately, the world, and the meaning or intent of the words used, is not the same today as in say 1790!
