The important difference isn’t between left and right but between extreme and moderate. Left and right go around on a ring and meet at the back, with only a few minor details to do with who owns what to separate Nazi from Stalinist.

Even though the USSR preached that all people were equal, the lines were drawm and even harder to cross than in the small town South.
