… and send your tax deductible donation now and receive a swaddling cloth just like the one baby Jesus used.(I actually heard that on the radio on one of the religious stations).

It is a myth that religion provides stability. If you plot murder rate vs church attendance you’ll find that the more religious folks are, the higher the murder rate is.

My Bible dictionary info is the Greek word in Luke’s report, was “phaine” meaning “staff”….but Old Testament Hebrew in Chronicles 32 used “staff”; but Job 39:9 and Prov.14:4 and Isa.1:3 used a word meaning “crib”….-Whatever word was used, God the Son chose to be born in a “stable” in His incarnation birth to the Virgin Mary, and his human stepfather Joseph, who obeyed God who told him in a dream that he should go ahead with the marriage, because the baby was a divine miracle.-No other religion has such a story, prophesied from Genesis in the Garden of Eden to be fulfilled as reported in the Gospels of the New Testament. No other religion has a divine Savior with the authority and power to grant total forgiveness to sinners who repent, and to give eternal life that cannot be taken away to genuine believers. No other religion has a 66-book Bible with hundreds of prophecieswith many already fulfilled, and more to come. -I thank God that as of 2012, the latest data I found, an estimated 2 billion humans alive today have chosen to be Christian. The Pentecost Church AD 33 began a membership to converts with Faith in Jesus the Christ, surely numbering by now in a huge number, trillions? -The world needed Jesus, and needed the stability in human life that results from Christian Bible teachings given by God.Absent God’s standards, the world is an evil anarchy, overfilling with sins. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the only source for redeeming souls and for redeeming the world and for blessing the earth with true Peace when Jesus Returns. I hope He comes soon.

@jrolder -I’d have to largely agree. My dad said as far back as I can remember something that George Carlin also said, and that statement is the fact that there have been more wars, more death, more misery, more destruction and more suffering caused by religion than any other reason in the history of the world.

http://cnsnews.com/blog/cnsnewscom-staff/unto-you-born-day-city-david-savior-intellect informs us that the scripture was written in Greek in the N.T. and I doubt any poster on this website is a Bible language scholar expert. I trust my Bible and my concordance to give me the correct answers.-CNS News Christmas article gives Luke 1: 26 to 56 and Luke 2: 1 to 14. Prints 3 pages landscape. God’s Words, faithfully copied and preserved. Key= Read and Believe and Trust God and Savior Jesus, confessing to God the Father that He is correct, we are all sinners, and ask Him for forgiveness and eternal life. Best New Year resolution!

Yes, I regularly teach Biblical Greek and Latin to theology students. I don’t claim to know much theology, but I do know some Greek and Latin. There are a number of words in the Greek New Testament that are ordinary Greek words that have taken on a special meaning in Christian contexts. One example is “angelos” which just means “messenger” in Greek, and that’s how we expect our students to translate it: “a messenger from god” rather than “an angel from god”. When the New Testament was written, that’s what the Greek meant. The meaning “angel” developed only later on.

^What’s the root for desperately wanting Jesus to return soon, “dementia”? (Seems it’s been expected for 2,000 years now by his most committed followers.)

“intellect informs us that the scripture was written in Greek in the N.T. and I doubt any poster on this website is a Bible language scholar expert.”-that is what I posted. I did not say no poster was a scholar on languages….only that none seem to be Bible scholar experts in language. The most important point is to find what the original language words meant when the Bible was written. Languages change over time. Hebrew for the Old Testament and Greek or Aramaic in the New Testament, and what other languages mean by a word is irrelevant.-My Bible study books deal only with scripture and the best Bible scholars deal with the oldest MSS known to exist. It shows the reliability of the Jewish scribes who copied so carefully page by page to preserve the Word of God. -There are MSS in the Israeli Museum that whatever the date copied, they compare closely and correctly to older MSS.-What this website needs is the “stable influence” of the original stable of the birth of Jesus, because Jesus is the source of godly influence which stabilizes people and families and nations.

Not believing in a deity is not a belief system.I can see, having studies different concepts, where belief in scientific evidence of the universe around us, can be considered a belief system to some.

What it has to do with is that religious books are only going to interpret scripture in a way that validates that religion. Which is why I’ll stick with the linguistic experts who have no axe to grind. In any case, it turns out that ancient manuscripts do have variations from what we read today as “inerrant”.
